Where to Buy Weed in NJ: 2026 Rules & Same-Day Delivery

New Jersey sells legal weed to any adult 21 or older with a photo ID. No medical card. No doctor’s note. No registry.

While most New Jersey towns voted to keep dispensaries out of their borders, your options are not as limited as you may think. This guide covers where to buy cannabis in New Jersey legally and what one ounce actually buys across each format

First time buying cannabis in New Jersey? Start here.

Where You Can Legally Buy Cannabis in New Jersey

Only a state-licensed retailer can sell you cannabis in New Jersey. Every NJ dispensary holding a retail license buys from tested supply, and no other storefront may legally purchase cannabis for resale. The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission issues every retail license in the state and publishes the holders, so verifying a cannabis dispensary takes about a minute.

Legal cannabis is easy to identify once you know the markers. Signs you are standing in a legal weed dispensary:

  • A license number
  • An ID check before you reach the sales floor
  • Sealed, child-resistant packaging with lab results printed on the label
  • Staff who explain serving size, potency, and onset time without guessing

How the CREAMM Act and the Cannabis Regulatory Commission Set the Rules

The CREAMM Act legalized adult-use sales in New Jersey and handed the rulebook to the Cannabis Regulatory Commission. The commission licenses retailers, sets the legal limit on what leaves the counter, and enforces the testing standards that keep verified product on shelves.

A town can prohibit cannabis retailers from operating inside its borders. Most did. However,  a municipal ordinance cannot prohibit delivery to residents. Your council decided whether a store could open on Main Street; it did not decide whether you can order online.

Buy Legal Cannabis in Williamstown at Carry-On

Carry-On Cannabis is a licensed New Jersey adult-use retailer at 2379 S Black Horse Pike in Williamstown. Our guides can walk you through serving size, potency, and onset time. Verified supply, plain answers, no guesswork.

Regulated retail should not feel clinical. So we built District 1 as a destination instead of a queue:

  • Free delivery on orders over $75 to eligible addresses within roughly 20 miles of Williamstown, prepaid through Aeropay
  • 25% off every day for veterans, seniors 65+, medical patients, police, fire, and first responders
  • 20%, 22%, then 25% off your first three visits
  • Carry-On Crew, nine cash-back tiers with a $330 ceiling

Your Town Voted on Storefronts. It Did Not Vote on Your Door.

If your municipality opted out of retail, delivery is still yours. Same-day delivery runs from District 1 in Williamstown across Gloucester County and the surrounding South Jersey towns: Sicklerville, Franklinville, Cross Keys, Downer, New Brooklyn. Order the full menu online, prepay through Aeropay, and let the trip come to you.

What You Can Buy in a Single Transaction

New Jersey caps every adult-use transaction at one ounce of usable cannabis, or its equivalent. The purchase limit resets per transaction rather than per store, and the state tracking system enforces it across every dispensary you visit in a single day.

Purchase Limits for Flower, Edibles, Gummies and Concentrates

One ounce means 28.35 grams of cannabis flower, sold by the gram or by the eighth. Other formats convert:

  1. 28.35 grams of dried flower across any mix of indica, sativa, and hybrid strains
  2. 4 grams of solid cannabis concentrates such as live resin, live rosin, shatter, or wax
  3. 4 grams of vaporized formulations, covering most cannabis vapes and cartridges and vape carts
  4. 1,000 mg of ingestible products, meaning ten 100 mg packages of cannabis edibles

You can mix. Half an ounce of flower plus a pack of gummies lands inside the limit, as does a quarter ounce with a cartridge and a few cannabis pre-rolls.

Possession Limits, Six Ounces and Crossing State Lines

An adult who meets the age requirement of 21 or older may possess up to six ounces of cannabis and cannabis products in New Jersey, well above what one transaction allows.

Three rules people forget:

  • Public consumption stays illegal, so cannabis is legal to consume on private property only, never on sidewalks, parks, beaches, or boardwalks.
  • Cannabis rides in your car in sealed original packaging, and driving under the influence carries the same penalties as alcohol.
  • Carrying cannabis across state lines is a federal offense, even into another legal state, even for one pre-roll.

Our guide to consuming cannabis responsibly covers storage and dosing in more detail.

Your First Time Inside a New Jersey Dispensary

The first time is shorter than people expect. Ten minutes, door to door. You check in at a secured entry, ID verification confirms you are 21 or older, and the sales floor opens. Products sit behind the counter, and a guide walks you through them.

What to Bring: Photo ID, Cash and a Debit Card

Bring a government-issued photo ID. Any state ID works, and so does a passport, as long as it proves you are 21 or older.

Payment is where cannabis retail still looks odd, and federal banking restrictions are the reason. Credit cards get declined at nearly every dispensary in the country. Cash always works at our Williamstown counter. So does the Cashless ATM, which runs as a debit transaction, and Aeropay, an ACH transfer straight from your bank. Text to Pay covers Apple Pay and Google Pay too.

Delivery orders are prepaid through Aeropay before the driver leaves. Dispensary hours differ by store, and some NJ weed dispensary locations run a drive-thru, so check before you go.

Ordering for Pickup Instead of Walking In

You can build a cart from the online menu, choose your store, and the order waits behind the counter under your name. Inventory moves fast. An order for pickup is the only reliable way to lock a strain before it sells out.

Frequently Asked Questions About Adult-Use Cannabis

Do you need a medical card to buy recreational cannabis?

No. Any adult 21 or older with valid ID can buy adult-use cannabis in New Jersey without registering for anything, so no medical marijuana card is required. Medical patients enrolled in the Medicinal Cannabis Program keep their own benefits, including different tax treatment and separate purchase limits. Buying cannabis in New Jersey recreationally requires none of that.

Can out-of-state visitors buy cannabis at a licensed dispensary?

Yes. New Jersey sells to residents and visitors alike, so an out-of-state license from Pennsylvania, Delaware, or New York works exactly as a New Jersey one does. Students at Rowan University in Glassboro fall under the same rule as anyone else: 21 or older, valid ID, done. A visitor heading to Atlantic City can purchase cannabis in New Jersey on the same terms as a resident.

The catch is the drive home: carrying cannabis across state lines breaks federal law regardless of what either state allows.

What does cannabis cost once taxes are added?

New Jersey applies 6.625% sales tax plus a social equity excise fee, and municipalities may levy a local transfer tax of up to 2%. Some menus fold that excise tax into the shelf price while others apply it at checkout, so compare the total rather than the sticker.

The Carry-On Crew loyalty program is a rewards program that returns cash on every purchase, and current deals and specials rotate weekly.

What if your town opted out of cannabis sales?

You can still order. A municipality that banned dispensaries cannot ban cannabis delivery to residents living there, which is why delivery coverage across South Jersey looks nothing like the dispensary map.

Same-Day Weed Delivery Across South Jersey

Weed delivery closes the gap the opt-out map opened. Carry-On runs weed delivery in Williamstown and every town around it, dispatching from the Black Horse Pike store across roughly 20 miles. Weed delivery NJ residents can actually use, in five counties.

Orders over $75 deliver free. Same-day delivery runs whenever inventory and timing allow. Payment clears through Aeropay before dispatch; the driver checks your ID at the door, and only the person who placed the order can accept it. Private residential addresses only.
